Summer Lecture Series Kicks off with Talk by Author Kate Larson.
The first lecture of our 2011 Summer Lecture series will take place on Thursday, July 7. The speaker will be author and historian Kate Clifford Larson. Larson will speak about her new book The Assassin’s Accomplice: Mary Surratt and the Plot to Kill Abraham Lincoln.
In The Assassin’s Accomplice, Larson tells the story of Mary Surratt, a conspirator in the plot to kill Abraham Lincoln, and the first woman ever to be executed by the federal government. A Confederate sympathizer, Surratt ran the boarding house where the conspirators met to plan Lincoln’s assassination.
Larson is an adjunct faculty member at Simmons College. She served as a historical consultant to the recent movie about the Lincoln assassination, The Conspirator.
All summer lectures take place at the Drew Archives in the Wright Building, 147 St. George Street, Duxbury. Light refreshments are served at 10 a.m. and the lecture begins at 10:30. Tickets are $5 per person. |
