Scope and Content:
The Geishecker Photograph Collection consists primarily of 73 photographs of the summer cottage (built in 1879) located at 275 Marshall Street and the surrounding Standish Shore area of Duxbury. There are photographs of both the interior and exterior of the house as well as the Myles Standish Hotel. Many photographs were taken by the Remmington family, who rented the cottage for twenty years before purchasing it in 1930. These photographs include images of the Remingstons’ daughters, Mary and Florence. John and Pauline Geishecker were the owners of the house from 1965-2013, and are photographs that reflect their tenure. Ephemera in the collection include labels for Myles Standish ginger ale that was produced at the Myles Standish Hotel.

Biographical Sketch:
The photographs in the collection reflect the ownership of 275 Marshall Street, Duxbury, by two families, the Remmingtons and the Geisheckers.

In 1930, Phillip H. Remmington (1887-1933) and his wife, Marion (McKnight) Remmington, of Springfield, MA, purchased the house from Elizabeth Watson. The Remmingtons had been renting the house during the summer months for twenty years. Phillip H. Remmington was the treasurer for the L. S. Brown Charcoal Company and had been introduced to Duxbury by the owner of the company, Luman Brown. The house was ideally located in the growing summer neighborhood of Standish Shore and it was directly across the street from the Myles Standish Hotel.

In 1965, Pauline and John Geishecker bought the house from Florence Remington Smith. John Geishecker was the Vice President of the Cambridgeport Savings Bank for many years, and the couple lived in Auburndale, MA. 275 Marshall Street was their summer home until 1981, when it became their year-round residence.
