Joshua Carver Collection (1798-1799)

Scope and Content: The collection consists of a letter dated Dec. 8, 1799 from Hannah Loring in Duxbury, MA to her cousin, Abigail Thomas in Marshfield, MA.  Also, three promissory notes (Jan. 29, 1799) signed by Joshua Carver and witnessed by Asa Keen, Jr..  A fourth promissory note (Sept. 1798) is unsigned.

Biographical Information: No information can be found regarding Hannah Loring and Abigail Thomas.  Both names were common in the towns of Duxbury and Marshfield.  Hannah Loring may have been married to the “Levi” discussed in the letter but there is no documentation to support this.

Joshua Carver may be the same Joshua Carver (1732-1826) of Marshfield, son of Joshua Carver and Martha Ford.

Asa Keen, Jr. (1772-1827) was married to Abigail Barstow (1772-1852) of Pembroke.
