Scope and Content:
The collection contains 57 items connected to the Bolton family of Duxbury, MA, including the papers of John W. Bolton and his son, Winston F. Bolton, in the early to mid-20th century. The bulk of the collection is made up of Bolton family photographs, including photo albums. The images are of the Bolton family and their friends. The collection provides a glimpse into the early life of poet Winston F. Bolton and life in Duxbury during WWII.

Biographical Sketch:
John Winston Bolton (1902-1963) was the second of three children born to Joseph F. Bolton and Anice E. Coplitts. His siblings included an older sister, Elizabeth E. Bolton, and a twin brother, Joseph F. Bolton. The Boltons lived on Tremont Street in Duxbury, MA. After graduating from Duxbury High School (then located in Partridge Academy), John W. Bolton attended M.I.T. in Boston. He married Marion I. Tirrell and had one son, Winston F. Bolton. During WWII, John W. Bolton was a member of the Coast Guard Reserve and was appointed Air Warden by the Duxbury Committee on Safety.

Winston F. Bolton (1933-2020) was the only child of John and Marion Bolton. He graduated from Duxbury High School and joined the Air Force in 1948. He served in Japan until he was honorably discharged in 1952. He studied at Northeastern University, Boston University, and Bridgewater State College. He was a technical writer and editor but was also an accomplished poet. His poems have appeared in anthologies and literary journals. He published two collections of poetry, What the Air Might Say (2013) and Among Ruins (2015).
