The Collection consists of wedding, anniversary and graduation invitations sent to Walter F. Cushman and his wife, Lucy (Hall) Cushman between the years 1902-1916. Also included are two notes to Walter F. Cushman from A. H. Hews, written on A. H. Hews & Co. stationery. The Hews Company was a manufacturer of fancy earthen ware and flower pots in Cambridge, MA. Of special note is a cyanotype photograph post card, dated 1886, of a ship leaving Honolulu Harbor. The collection was found in the Widing’s home, neighbors of Lura Cushman, the daughter of Walter and Lucy Cushman.
Walter F. Cushman (1852-1915) was the son of Capt. David Cushman and Mary (Alden) Sampson Cushman. Lucy (sometimes spelled Lucie) Hall was the daughter of the Gurnet lighthouse keeper, George Hall, and Ardelia (Ripley) Hall. The Cushmans lived at a house built by Capt. David Cushman on the Blue Fish River known as The Anchorage.
