Scope and Content:
One document between Levi Sampson and Charles Keene, both of Duxbury, for the lease of Sampson’s farm, meadow, and salt marsh, for one year, 1843.

Biographical Note:
Capt. Levi Sampson (1783-1867) was born to Noah Sampson and Abigail Delano on their farm in West Duxbury. He became a successful shipbuilder on the Bluefish River. He and his wife, Sophia McLauthlin, had 11 children, five of whom were master mariners: Augustus, Erastus, Daniel, Simeon, and Alexander. Sampson mostly built ships for Thomas Lamb of Boston and also for Ezra Weston, with his yard located next to Weston’s Ten Acre Yard on the Bluefish.
