Ruth Hall Josselyn Record Book (1839)
Scope and Content: The Collection consists of paper-bound record book. The front pages appear to be a ledger composed by Sidney Josselyn (1805-1837) in 1832 while in New Orleans. The following two pages record the births, marriages and deaths of the Hall family of Duxbury and transcriptions of the obituaries of Sidney Josselyn and his son, Eugene Sidney Josselyn (1837-1838) written by Ruth Hall Josselyn (1801-1842). Flowers and leaves have been sewn into the back pages of the book and are very fragile.
Biographical Information: Ruth Hall Josselyn was born in Duxbury, MA in 1801. She was the daughter of Daniel Hall and Ruth Josselyn. In 1832 she married Sidney Josselyn (1805-1837) of Boston and moved with him to New Orleans. In 1837 Sidney died of an epidemic sweeping the city, leaving Ruth and an infant son, Sidney Eugene. Ruth returned to Duxbury where her son died in 1838. Ruth died in 1842.
