The Last Will and Testament of Lydia Simmons of Duxbury, written on October 4, 1776.

The Last Will and Testament of Lydia Simmons of Duxborough in the county of Plymouth in the State of Massachusetts in New England, Spinster, on the Fourth day of October in the year one thousand and seven hundred and seventy six being advanced in life and under many bodily infirmities, but of perfect sound mind and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life, and being desirous to settle things before my departure, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form as follows viz:
…I give and bequeath to my youngest daughter namely Lusanna Prat widow to John Prat deceased, and to my daughter Lydia Simmons, all my hole estate, wheresoever it may be found, after my funeral charges and just debts are paid, excepting those things that I shall disperse of here after:
I give to my grandson Isaac Simmons my grate Bible and my silver spoon
And as to my other children, which the lord hath gratuously given me, namely Jehial Simmons, and Levi Simmons, Zeriuah Holmes, and Martha Lowden, my mind is that they have had their parts of their late father’s estate, they having more than their sisters Lusannah and Lydia and being advised by my late husband Isaac Simmons to give my estate as I have and it being my own opinion that it ought so to be…

Biographical Sketch
Lydia Cushing Simmons (1713-1776) was the daughter of Capt. John Cushing and Mary Bacon. In 1732, at the age of 18, she married Isaac Simmons Jr. of Duxbury. Together they had eight children: Consider, Martha, Jehiel, Zeruiah, Levi, Martha, Lusanna, and Lydia. Isaac and Lydia Simmons lived in North Duxbury and are buried in Dingley Cemetery.
